What Google Have To Say About Hiring an SEO

If I'm going to listen to anyone about what I should do when I hire an SEO (Search Engine Optimisation or Search Engine Oprimiser {individual or agency}) it'll be Google and I'll explain why...

Google executes (depending when and where and on what device) around 75% - 80% of all search queries worldwide. That's a lot. For me, when I'm designing a website, that's enough to say “Hey, I'm going to listen to what they want and provide it.”

Now for clients hiring an “SEO” can be an absolute minefield. It's still very much a wild wild west out there and I just love seeing posts on social with the headline “I need to hire an SEO” because I just crack out my popcorn and start giggling. The amount of “SEO's” who post their contract rates BEFORE EVEN LOOKING at the client's website. The amount that send unsolicited personal messages and worse.

What Should I Know

SEO can cover a great many things and I'm not going to go into that here as there's plenty of articles in our SEO blog you can read on that and we even have our SEO Dojo to help with basic training.

Rather than what you should know is “What you should ask”.

Any SEO worth their salt will never ever quote you figures BEFORE assessing two fundamental things:

  • What do YOU mean by SEO
    • What is it you want
    • What do you want achieve
    • How would you like to achieve that
  • Where's your SEO at RIGHT NOW

This needs measuring because without measurement you have no idea how successful your SEO is

We will typically gather requirements from a client, look at where they are at, what they want to achieve and how they'd best like to achieve those goals before we create even 1 report.

Why We Take This Approach

SEO isn't something that can be done overnight. It can take months, as a guide we'd suggest a minimum of 3 months before any movement in SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) can be noticed. We also measure EVERYTHING.

We then execute tasks very specific to your project. This can include on site SEO such as content re-writing and even design issues or social media marketing.

Again, we measure. We also train. We show you how to execute these tasks so you yourself can eventually take ownership of the ongoing optimisation and marketing of your website.

Is This In Line With What Google Suggest ?

Absolutely. We've been doing this for a while, in-fact around 20 years. We have clients throughout the globe (just take a look through our portfolio) and see for yourself.

We also listen to what Google have to say, in particular Google Webmasters as this is where we get to speak with Google directly and find out what it is that they want and even get the opportunity to ask if what we are implementing is good or bad for SEO.

When was the last time your Webmaster communicated directly with someone from Google...?
